Pietro Cartaino di Sciarrino (C.S. Pietro) and Paolo Cartaino di Sciarrino (C.S. Paolo) were brothers who emigrated from Palermo in Sicily. Their first cousin was Salvatore Cartaino (Salvatore Scarpitta). His sister, Stella, also was the wife of C.S. Pietro. Salvatore and Stella Cartaino, the children of Gaetano Cartaino, also were immigrants from Palermo. The cousins apparently adopted professional names to limit confusion about their identities. Among Pietro's four children were Salvatore C. Pietro and Maria Abbott, the mother of Starr Abbott. Among Scarpitta's five children were sons Gaetano (Guy) and Salvatore Scarpitta, Jr. Guy Scarpitta was the father of Stephen Scarpitta. Lola Scarpitta is one of the three daughters of Salvatore Scarpitta, Jr.
